  7. Neil Diamond is a master showman, I got this album when Vinyl ruled the media and I played this album until it couldn't be played anymore, I love Neil Diamond, even after all of these years, he can still do it for me in every song he sings and this album is no exception/5().
  8. Aug 19,  · An album my parents played during their parties in the early '70s. I revisited it recently and there is some great musicianship and showmanship here (we are talking Neil Diamond after all). His attempts at country and western songs, which he must have performed under the influence of something, were not as cringe-worthy as I remembered, and actually pretty damn funny ("Soggy Pretzels").
  9. The music on Hot August Night is a fine presentation of the entire spectrum of the Diamond oeuvre, from "Solitary Man" to "Song Sung Blue." It's great, pretentious, goofy pop. Neil has always had a marvelously evocative, hymn-like quality, but it's pure Hollywood reverence, and he really should get a gig writing soundtracks. Which is no putdown.
